In
December, 1999 several retired teachers in The Pas met to discuss
the development of a local Chapter of RTAM. Every retired teacher in
the area was contacted and by February there were twenty-one
interested former teachers ready to join the group. The Pas Retired
Teachers' Association was formed in April, 2000 and received its
charter from the provincial organization in May, 2000.
Our numbers grown to
about 50 members, and we meet quarterly to share information and friendships.
We have initiated several local projects related to preserving the
history of education in the area, the names of the hundreds of
teachers who worked in The Pas, and the biographies of many who
retired here.
