5. President’s Report
a) Vel reported on the state of affairs at the provincial RTAM
board, and her
reasons for joining the board for 2008-09.
b) Vel noted the current situation regarding the COLA issue.
c) Vel asked if anyone was interested in an Elders’ Symposium to be
held in
Winnipeg in November at the Victoria Inn.
6. Secretary-Treasurer’s Report
To date our account has a balance of $184.92.
7. ACER-CART Report
Vaughn reported on: the resignation and replacement of the
Executive-Director;
the addition of a new member organization - Yukon RT Alumni; bylaw
updating;
senior abuse awareness day in June; and political action
undertaken. He noted
that the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan’s recent valuation placed
this plan in a
deficit position. As a result, the O.T.F., RTO/ERO and Ontario
government have
agreed to reducing the COLA for future retirees as the best way to
deal with
their crisis. Information is linked to on the ACER-CART website.
Vaughn was
re-elected Vice-President of ACER-CART.
8. RTAM Website Issues
Virtually no updates have occurred on the provincial website since June
2007
and much is getting out of date, in spite of a webmaster replacement
havin
been appointed. The provincial RTAM board has seen fit to prohibit
Chapter
websites on the provincial server, and as the only Chapter having
participated,
it appears that The Pas Chapter we will soon lose its website. Vaughn has
arranged for the historical data on The Pas Chapter site to be
transferred to
the Kelsey School Division’s website, but it will take some time to
accomplish
this.
9. Discussion
Some discussion took place on various agenda items. The recent RTAM
group
benefits dental plan changes were criticized, and members were
advised to
look carefully at the small print. Vel asked for suggestions for
her RTAM
provincial committee - Educational Advocacy.
10. Future Meetings
The 2008-09 meeting dates will be set by the President. It was
agreed to
select a January date for the next meeting.
11. Fellowship
Following the lunch and business portion of the
meeting, conversation was
enjoyed.
12. Adjournment
Vel adjourned the
business meeting at 12:50 pm.
