Introduction

MINUTES

1. Call to Order
  A meeting of The Pas Retired Teachers Association was called to order at
  11:30 a.m. on January 29, 2008 by President Vel McAdam. Vel thanked all
  in attendance for coming out on the coldest day of the year.

2. Attendance 
  Those attending: Linda Anderson, Frank Baguski, Allison Bennett, Ed Bodin,
  Elaine Bollman, Howard Chen, John Coulson, Betty Gagnon, Jacqueline Isfeld,
  Robert Isfeld, Diane Kelly, Don Maksymchuk, Vel McAdam, Keith McMurchy,
  Linda Munro, Gladys Reynolds, Rosemarie Wadelius, Vaughn Wadelius,
  Donna Watts.    Also attending: Anne Chen

3. Agenda
  The agenda was agreed upon.

4. Minutes of Previous Meeting
   The minutes of the October meeting had been posted on the web page and a
   copy was circulated.

   be adopted.

5. President’s Report
    Vel provided an update on provincial RTAM activities and recent political
    discussions on the COLA issue. She noted that local members should be
    aware of these and asked them to provide her with their opinions regarding
    political action.

6. Secretary-Treasurer’s Report
    Vaughn reported that the bank balance at January 15, 2008 was $174.92
    (including the $5.00 membership in Westoba Credit Union). Another $5
    membership fee was collected at this meeting. He reported that The Pas
    Chapter now had 51 members (49 regular and 2 associate).

7. ACER-CART Report
    Vaughn reviewed the 2007-08 priorities set at the 2007 ACER-CART annual
    general meeting:
        a) elder abuse
        b) availability and cost of prescription drugs
        c) the effect of escalating property taxes on seniors.
    He noted that a proposal for a federal initiative grant (New Horizons) by
    ACER-CART is to be discussed at its 2008 AGM. A handout on pension
    splitting was distributed for information.

8. Tim Sale Report
    Vel noted that the report by Tim Sale to government on the COLA issue was
    posted on the MTS and the RTAM websites. A copy was circulated. Vaughn
    provided a handout that summarized the report and the RTAM response. Vel
    asked for feedback on political action The Pas Chapter might consider.

9. Future Meetings
    The possible dates of the remaining 2007-08 meetings being considered by
    the President are Tuesday, March 18 and Tuesday, May 6 (AGM).

10. Fellowship
      Following the business portion of the meeting, lunch and conversation
      were enjoyed.

11. Adjournment
      Vel adjourned the business meeting at 12:10 pm.
