MINUTES
1. Call to Order
A general meeting of The Pas Retired Teachers Association was
called to
order at 11:35 p.m. on February 24, 2009 at the A&W
(Meeting Room)
by President Vel McAdam. Vel welcomed members, and two
new members
in attendance.
2. Attendance
Those attending: Allison Bennett, Ed Bodin, Elaine Bollman, Howard
Chen,
Vel McAdam, Linda Munro, Kathleen Nadler, Gladys Reynolds, Dave
Schmidt,
Vaughn Wadelius, Arlene Wilson. Also attending: Anne
Chen
3. Agenda
The agenda was agreed upon.
4. Minutes of Previous Meeting
The minutes of the October 21 annual general meeting had been posted
on the
web page and were circulated.

5. President’s Report
a) President Vel reported on activities at the provincial RTAM board
level. She
provided some handouts for information regarding a
controversy concerning the
early "resignation" of the MTS General Secretary, and
communications about
this in the Winnipeg Teachers’ Association newsletter and the
MTS Teacher. b) President Vel noted that the RTAM AGM is in
Brandon and that Vaughn will be
presented with an RTAM Distinguished Service Award. Local delegates
to
attend at RTAM expense are being sought.
6. Secretary-Treasurer’s Report
Vaughn reported on the membership to date, and noted
the addition of two new
members, Kathleen and Dave. Our current account balance is $184.92.
7. ACER-CART Report
Vaughn reported on the national organization’s bylaw updating and
the
availability of this and briefs by ACER-CART to the federal
government on the
ACER-CART website
8. RTAM Recommendation
A resolution was proposed which would allow for a more
democratically representative group of voters at the RTAM annual
general meeting. The proposal was similar to the practice at the
Saskatchewan Superannuated Teachers’ annual meeting. After
discussion it was agreed to present this resolution to the RTAM
annual meeting in May.

That the following resolution be approved for the
2009 RTAM AGM:
"Be It Resolved That: Representative voting at the RTAM Annual General
Meeting or at a RTAM Special Meeting shall be as follows:
1. The Executive shall annually determine the number of Chapter
representatives
to the AGM, ensuring that no Chapter shall have fewer than
two
representatives.
2. Executive members shall have voting privileges.
3. The President shall arrange for a meeting of Non-Chapter members
immediately prior to the RTAM Annual General Meeting for the
purpose of
choosing representatives as prescribed under 1."

9. Special Meeting
A special meeting of RTAM Chapter presidents had been called for Feb 25
in
Winnipeg, in conjunction with the RTAM Board meeting. Vel will attend.
10. Nominations.
a) It is time to think about
nominations for the RTAM Board and the local
The Pas RTA Board.
b) It was proposed to nominate DeeDee Rizzo, a Past President
of RTAM, for an
RTAM Distinguished Service Award.

10. Future Meetings
The next meeting date will be set by the President.

Following the business meeting, conversation was enjoyed.
