MINUTES
1. Call to Order
The 2008 Annual General Meeting was held at the Kikiwak Inn on
Tuesday, May 6, 2008. The meeting was
called to order at 11:35 a.m. by
President Vel McAdam.
2. Attendance
Those attending: Allison Bennett, Ed Bodin, Howard Chen, Joyce
Dugan, Terry Dugan, Diane Kelly, Achim Kemmesies, Vel McAdam, Linda
Munro, Steve Seniuk, Vaughn Wadelius, Also attending: Mrs. Chem.
3. Agenda
The agenda was amended and agreed upon.
4. Minutes of Previous Meeting
The minutes of the last meeting have been posted on the web
page and a
copy was circulated.

5. President’s Report
a) Vel provided a candid update on the pension political
action undertaken by
RTAM, MTS and government. She advised local members
that a plebiscite
of all active and retired teachers was being initiated
by MTS and government
and that members should vote as they believe. RTAM
information about the
plebiscite was circulated.
b) Vel reported on a letter from J. Staulker advocating
individual member action
with MLAs on the pension issue.
c) Vel noted that two Chapter delegates could attend the RTAM
AGM to be held
in Winnipeg, in addition to her attending as a Board
member. VP Ed Bodin
may attend.
d) Vel announced that she was not running for the provincial
RTAM Board again.
6. Secretary-Treasurer’s Report
Vaughn reported on the Chapter’s income and expenditures since July
1, 2007. The bank balance at May 1, 2008 was $179.92 (including the
$5.00 membership in Westoba Credit Union).

7. General Bylaw Review
Vel circulated a copy of the discussion paper on proposed By-Law
changes. She asked Vaughn to speak to the issue. The three motions
coming up at the 2008 RTAM AGM were reviewed. The other proposed
changes will be discussed at the next Chapter meeting.
8. MSOS Summer Games
Alison noted that several events of the upcoming June Summer Games
were in need of seniors’ support, both as volunteers and as
participants. She encouraged members to consider entering some
categories. There is a $20 MSOS annual membership fee and a $13
initial entry fee. Subsequent event entries are only $1.00 each.
9. Election of Officers
Nominations for all the table officers of TPRTA for the 2008 – 2009
year were opened. The following were nominated. There were no
further nominations. The positions were acclaimed as follows:
President Vel McAdam
Vice-President Ed Bodin
Secretary-Treasurer Vaughn Wadelius
10. Distinguished Service Award Nomination
While the 2008 deadline has passed, it was proposed that former
(2003-05) RTAM president DeeDee Rizzo be nominated for this award
for her service to the provincial organization. A testimonial was
read.

Rizzo be nominated for the RTAM Distinguished Service Award.

11. Future Meetings
Vaughn will survey members via email to see if there is a
preference for the number of meetings held in a year. The 2008-09
meeting dates will then be set
by the President.
12. Adjournment
The business meeting was adjourned at
12:20 pm, and was followed by lunch
and socializing.
