 RTAM STANDING COMMITTEES
These Standing Committees help to conduct the business of the Association in 2007-08:
 
Annual General Meeting - Chairperson is Richard Benoit.

 This committee helps to prepare for the AGM. The location and date in May are set by the
 Board.

Bylaws and Policy - Chairperson is Denis Fontaine.

 This committee works at updating the RTAM Bylaws and Policy Handbook.

Chapter Formation & Liaison - Chairperson is Pat Bowslaugh.

 Assists in the development of new Chapters. Chapter activities take place throughout
 Manitoba during the course of each year. See the list of Chapters for one near you!
 
Editorial- Chairperson and KIT Editor is Doreen Sage.

 The Editorial Committee produces KIT, the official newsletter of RTAM. It is published and
 mailed to members and others four times a year. Send your articles to the editor for review.

Educational Advocacy - Chairperson is Vel McAdam.

 The committee focus includes studying issues of importance to the maintenance and promotion
 of the public school system; assisting in the protection of the right of Manitoba children to an
 education which will best prepare them to lead full and productive lives in Canadian society;
 researching areas of concern; and working to inform RTAM members about educational issues.

Group Benefits- Chairperson is Barbara Ann Lee.

  RTAM's emergency medical travel, dental, life insurance, and long term care plan information
  is available to all members. The handbook Ready, Set, Retire is distributed to potential
  retirees each year through the pre-retirement seminars.
A French version is also available.

Membership- Chairperson is Ray Sitter.

 Is responsible for attracting new members to RTAM. Over the last 8 years  RTAM's
 membership has grown from just over 1000 members in 1997 to more than 6,600
 members. The committee looks for ways to improve membership.

Pensions - Chairperson is Anne Monk.                                                      

 This committee remains current on aspects of teacher pensions, assisting and making
 recommendations to the Board as necessary, and advises RTAM on pension issues.

Political Action - Chairperson is Richard Benoit.                                         

 The committee recommends action on Board objectives and responds to Board requests,
 monitors political issues relevant to RTAM, and advises on emergent political issues.

Public Relations - Chairperson is John Sushelnitsky.

 Encourages RTAM publicity for 2007-2008 and considers the use of various other
 promotional items to promote RTAM. 

Travel - Chairperson is Dick Marshall.

 The committee facilitates member travel interests, maintains contact with travel
 organizations, and organizes sharing forums.

Wellness In Retirement- Chairperson is Peggy Prendergast.

 Supports Chapters which plan and put on workshops on wellness, financial and/or retirement
 planning for active and retired teachers.


Application for Committee Appointment:

 You may get involved in RTAM by volunteering to work on one of the RTAM committees.

 chair directly by May 31.
Committees are appointed by the Board of Directors in June.
