 Pensioners By Age Group

There is an interesting variation in the number of TRAF pensioners at various ages. The
following  graph depicts the number of pensioners in 5 year age cohorts (from ages 55-60
  to ages 100+).

  Pensions Received

Female TRAF pensioners receive less than their male colleagues. While the reasons
for this effect are several, the impact is important. The graph below shows how this
fact impacts on the longer retired teachers. The gross pension used is the average
pension of the youngest age group in each 5 year cohort (ex. age 55 in 55-60 group).
There are no males in the 100+ group.

Pensions

Inflation has a negative effect on everyone's pension, present and future
retirees alike.  This graph depicts the effects of inflation on $20,000 of a pension.
It is shown over 5 year periods, indicating the cumulative effect if no Cost of
Living (COLA) increase is built into the pension. In 25 years, the pension has
reduced to about half of its original value and buying power.
