Over a period of years,
RTAM has introduced to members six voluntary insurance plans,
administrated by Johnson Inc. The six plans are:
Flexible Extended Health Care
(new)
Emergency
Medical Travel & Trip Cancellation
Dental
Care
Term Life Insurance
Guaranteed Life Insurance
Long
Term Care
Information
on RTAM's new flexible Extended Health Care Plan, which can be
enhanced
with RTAM's optional Emergency Medical & Trip Cancellation Plan, was available in
the Winter
2008 issue of KIT, and is also available below.
NOTE: Not all school divisions are covered by
Blue Cross Extended Health. A comparison of the
MTS and the RTAM plans can be seen
here.
A package and
notice from MTS/Blue Cross was mailed to some retired teachers
in the Fall of 2007 : It is important for RTAM members to
realize that if they sign up for either choice on this package they
will be committed to paying for travel insurance for the
rest of their lives! Please note that this MTS travel
insurance has a 30 day travel maximum. RTAM members have a choice to
join this plan but you did not need to respond to this
form as your original Blue Cross Plan can continue as
is. Please remember that Johnson Inc. continues to offer RTAM
members a Travel Insurance Plan in which one is free to opt out
at any time.

These plans are offered as a service to
our members, but it is important that every member do the research to
ensure that a plan is a good fit for the specific member's needs as
there are many alternatives available.
To participate in the RTAM
Benefits Program, you must be a member of the Retired Teachers' Association of Manitoba.
Join the growing number of retired Manitoba teachers who
have chosen to affiliate themselves with our Association...and enjoy the benefits of being
part of a collective voice that advocates for our unique interests and needs as retired
teachers.

Policy
Regarding the roles of
administering and insuring RTAM's group policy, RTAM is the group
insured, Manulife is the insurer, and Johnson Inc. markets and
administers RTAM's Insured Benefits Plans. World Access is Manulife’s
administrator of the Emergency Medical Travel Insurance benefits.
Effective January 2004, RTAM authorized Johnson Inc. to collect premiums
from new plan members through pension deduction. This was possible
through the cooperation of TRAF, as administrator of the Teachers'
pension, and Johnson's
expertise with payroll deduction systems. Prior to 2004, all premiums
were collected through bank deduction, one month in advance.
Procedures
To set up benefits, Johnson Inc.
requires a deduction source. If a member sends an application for
benefits and wants to have deductions through the pension, but has not
indicated a pension number, the application
is considered incomplete and returned to the member with a form letter
requesting the missing information (highlighted) be completed and
returned. In some instances, the member is a new retiree and does not
have
a pension number assigned yet. In this case, the member is given the
option to send a void cheque so premiums can be deducted through
a bank and, if they wish, they can switch to pension once it is in
place.
Not all benefits will be able to be set
up as pension deduction as not all pensioners have a pension which is
adequate to cover the premium deductions. Those members still have the
option of bank deduction.

brochures, or if you have any questions concerning these plans, please
